the MARCH HARE
Back to the street down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?
Full Name: Martin Lepus Hastings
Name Meaning: MARTIN: From the Roman name Martinus, which was derived from Martis, the genitive case of the name of the Roman god MARS. Latin translation of warlike.
LEPUS: Hares and jackrabbits are leporids belonging to the genus of Lepus.
Nickname(s): Marty, Maddening Martin, Mad March Hare
Gender: Male
Fairy Tale & Character: Alice in Wonderland / March Hare
Age/Birthday: Twenty / August 20th

Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it's nine in the afternoon
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 145 lbs
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue

A pale-skinned brunette with eyes of blue, Martin keeps up with his appearance. He often wears loud eccentric make-up and is an obsessive face-washer. He usually prefers to keep his hair straightened and brushed over one eye. Being a vegetarian he’s slim and slender, but due to genetics he also has a round, soft face. His eyebrows are naturally very thin, and eyes are somewhat squinty and intense.

He enjoys trendy but unusual clothes; usually wearing jeans that he might have decorated or patched up himself, a form-fitting waist coat with tails, a scarf, and sometimes a tilted fisherman cap. He loves both bright and loud color schemes, and will sometimes combine the two for a look that usually merits a second glance. Martin’s nails are almost always painted, because if they weren’t, he would probably chew on them just like he habitually chews on anything and everything when he’s in need of primal comfort. As a vegetarian and a huge animal lover, Martin takes the “fur is murder” slogan to heart, and will only wear fur if it’s fake. The real reason Martin will wear fake fur at all is because at times he openly wishes to feel more like an animal. He has been known to face great ethic dilemma in the wearing of real rabbit fur: on one hand he cares deeply for the rabbit’s life, and on the other hand, he’d love to be a rabbit herself.

Personality: Whether he intends to be or not, Martin Hastings is almost always the center of attention. This is because he seems to be quite off his hrocker, but unlike others at Cheshire Crossing, Martin lets his insanity run wild and free, especially around the “normal” people. Martin has a seemingly short attention span, because his always seems to be changing the subject when he has something random to contribute to the conversation (which is frequently). He has poor volume control, tending to be either too loud or too soft when he speaks.

Martin sees the world as his own play-thing; this was apparent from the very beginning of his childhood. Martin was busy making his own world with the physical objects right in front of him, the best game of course being “Barbie Soap Opera.” Due to this early behavior, he doesn’t interact with others for companionship, for he doesn’t feel like he truly relates to others, and he certainly finds other people to be uninteresting and predicatable. Instead, he seeks the presence of others so that he has an audience, and more importantly, other people to shape in his own image. When in contact with human society Martin has a tendency to replace reality with his own nonsensical words and actions. It’s almost as though he tries to transform everything into one big, merrily-sadistic, cartoon scenario, as he feels free to resort to physical violence at any time he sees fit, say whatever he wishes, and do whatever he pleases.

Because of this fickleness, Martin is dreadful with romance. Like a normal teenager he joked about and discussed sex and intimacy, but participated in neither. In spite of his flamboyant exterior he fears the prospect of another discovering his vulnerabilities, let alone his romantic side. Flirting is more of a game to him. If he wasn’t so antsy about physical contact he’d probably mate like a rabbit: stoically, quickly, and always ready to move on to the next victim, only to feed his physical needs. It’s because of this frailty amid constant flirting with everyone that his sexual orientation remains a mystery. Martin especially enjoys flirting with his young male admirers, if only for the selfish purpose to make them flustered and confused about their own preferences.
History
And you know that you feel it too
'Cause it's nine in the afternoon
Martin was born on a dark dark October evening, it was also that evening that Martin's father purposely drove himself off the side of the Brooklyn Bridge. It most likely that fact, and probably really bad genetics that fed into Martin's psychosis. In his first ten years Martin didn't speak a word, not to anyone, even with coaxing from his mother it was evident the little boy was different.

Despite the fact that he might have been quite, and never formed sentences, he didn't manage to go into horrible, awful, and often times scary bouts of rage and utter inexplicable violent attacks. Often when these occurrences happened his mother ended up locking him in the basement until he calmed down. The boy was definitely capable of screaming and most certainly capable of cursing like a sailor. His one weakness that he was able to calm down instantly for was toast with jam, and his mother would most of the time make this for him just to stop his outbursts.

It was proposed again and again that perhaps Martin didn't know how to speak, but his mother seemed to know better, that Matin's silence was more of an act of defiance, because when asked a question Martin would only smile broadly, and then giggle soundlessly. It wasn't until the first day he was taken to the zoo, and there at the petting zoo exhibit, on sight of the very first brown rabbit and without further prompting did Martin shout out to the entire universe the ridiculous, but complete statement: “A rabbit and a hare are the same thing! I'm gonna take home THIS rabbit! Because if I do not get to, he and I will die alone! Because I'm a bunny, too!” His mother was in such utter shock from hearing her son speak she ended up paying a hefty sum of cash just to buy that hare and take it home as a memory of that amazing trip to the zoo.

From that point onward it was rare that Martin ever shut up.

He talked endlessly about everything, and anything. He even talked when no one was listening and no one was around. His favorite time to talk was during tea time, it was a time when everyone was gathered around a table, and could specifically sit and listen to his stories, with that brown rabbit on his lap from the zoo.

On one fateful 6 o'clock evening, just as tea time was rounding to an end, some friends of Martin, and himself were sitting around the parlor finishing their tea until one of his friends suggested they try these 'marvelous brownies' that he brought. While Martin attempted to explain that brownies were NEVER EVER EVER to be served with It was meant to be a dessert. Instead the friend insisted that these brownies were fabulous and he would NOT regret breaking the tea party rules one time. Martin helped himself to three of these brownies, three 'marvelous, delicious, MJ brownies'.

These brownies ... they took him on a trip, a trip to a world he never knew before. It slowed down time so he was stuck in a tea party for his entire life. The brown bunny in his lap? He became that hare. His madness took over his mind while those brownies were in his system. It was the triggering point for his own insanity. Martin had always been a tad off kilter, but these laced brownies just sealed the deal. His mind finally, and utterly succumbed to the insanity within that head his. A world of Unbirthdays, and tea parties. Where his best friend is just as crazy as him, but wears a hat. Oh, he was in such a crazy rabbit hole.

Coming down from his high he HAD to tell everyone about his adventure, his party guests just thought it was a really good trip, and becoming frustrated at the fact that no one would believe him about Wonderland, Martin ended up smash up a large grandfather clock with an ax and then splintering the rest of the chairs and table into kindle as well as he burned down that half of the house in a fury. He became constantly obsessed with trying to convince people that wonderland DID exist, and that YES tea time was ALL the time now because 6 o'clock never left. Time never change, it got to the point where people would not believe him and he become infuriated with such answers.

Martin's mother terrified by such a turn in his rage sent him to Cheshire Crossing in hopes of him learning to control his terrifying anger, and those violent tendencies as well those weird habits and obsessions of hares.
Storylines
And your eyes are the size of the moon
You could 'cause you can so you do
THE MAD HATTER : [info]theodorehatter : March Hare's closest companion, and trusted friend. Martin would do anything for him, and sit by his side in complete and utter silence for hours, and they both know how to finish their sentences and what they are thinking.

THE DORMOUSE : [info]tba [male or female] This person would be a particular favorite to Martin, he would feel the need to protect this person and shelter them like a pet. Martin would also most likely be a rather dominant figure in this relationship, while the Dormouse would be much like a doormat (haha). For example, Martin would demand stories and entertainment from them, but at the same time, Martin would also be very protective, and make sure nothing horrible would happen to them.

ALICE : [info]toyesterday This person will be tolerated for Martin, he will always be trying to speak over this person, and seem like he is better, and high and mightier then them. With interaction, they will constantly butt heads, but Martin will only shrug it off as simple chatter much to the frustration of the other person.

THE WHITE RABBIT : [info]timetooswift : This person is rather amusing to Martin, he loves playing with him and his 'valuables'. He also loves smashing his ego, and not listening to a word he has to say, building up his confidence just to break it down, and make him completely nervous again. Rabbit vs. Hare.

THE QUEEN OF HEARTS : [info]tba [female preferably] Martin is totally disrespectful to this woman, he NEVER listens to her, and always talks back. It's his own version of rebellion and often he provokes such an outburst from the woman he is instigating.

THE WHITE KING : [info]tba [male or female] Martin see's so many flaws within this person, they are gullible, and easy to manipulate. While Martin LOVES messing with this person, the White King is the type who allows for it. Martin will most likely shout at this person, and give them never ending grief, and they just take it. It's a win/win situation.
